STARKVILLE, Miss.—Mississippi State University’s residence halls provide some of the best on-campus housing in the country, according to a recent evaluation by College Consensus.

The college rankings website released a list of “Best College Dorms” among universities that qualify for a College Consensus score. Based on their architectural excellence, amenities and vibrant student life, MSU’s residence halls are listed at No. 24, making MSU the only Mississippi university ranked. The publisher said MSU’s living-learning communities are “transforming student life at Mississippi State with some of the best college dorms in the South.”

Dei Allard, executive director of MSU’s Department of Housing and Residence Life, oversees the university’s 17 residence halls.

“We are honored to be a part of this impressive national group of college and university residence halls,” Allard said. “Housing and Residence Life strives to create ‘a home away from home’ environment for students where they can foster new relationships, discover more about themselves and others, as well as academically thrive at State. We are proud of the residence hall options and the intentional experiences we provide students.”

MSU has developed nearly a dozen living-learning communities that connect students with similar academic or personal interests and give them the experience of living in the same dorm, such as engineering and honors students. “These communities aid students to integrate academically and socially beginning the first day they move to campus,” Allard said. “We are working to grow and enhance our current living-learning communities in the years to come.”

MSU is one of two Southeastern Conference universities to make the College Consensus list, along with the University of Florida. To see the complete rankings, visit https://www.collegeconsensus.com/rankings/best-college-dorms.
