The Southeast's top high school seniors are being invited to Mississippi State Oct. 7 for the university's Scholars' Recognition Day.

President Malcolm Portera recently extended invitations on the basis of high American College or Scholastic Aptitude test scores. Each student has a composite ACT score of at least 28 (out of a maximum 36) or the equivalent SAT score of 1240.

John Dickerson, director of enrollment services, said Scholars Recognition Day is sponsored each fall by the MSU Alumni Association.

"The Mississippi State family wants these outstanding young men and women, and their parents, to know that the state's largest university is aware of their accomplishments and wishes to formally congratulate them," Dickerson said.

Following campus tours, students and parents will be special guests at a luncheon with Portera and other university leaders. Other portions of their day will involve meetings with the academic deans and faculty members in the chosen or anticipated fields of study, as well as with representatives of the University Honors Programs.

Information also will be provided on financial aid, scholarships, student life, housing, and MSU's extensive cooperative education program.

Other activities will include a cookout and open house sponsored by the University Honors Council. Participants will receive special seating for the Auburn University-MSU football game at Scott Field.
