Mississippi State students are invited to participate in a trip to the Global Village within the Heifer Project Ranch in Perry County, Arkansas.
The Heifer Project is an international aid organization, providing agricultural and educational resources to impoverished communities around the world. In connection with the Maroon Edition and Sarah Thebarge's book, "The Invisible Girls," participants will visit the farm, meet the animals, and take part in the Global Village Experience where they will learn about the struggles of families in poor and developing nations -- much like the Somalian refugees of Thebarge's book.
This trip is an excellent opportunity for students who want to improve their leadership skills, build their community service portfolio, or just spend a fun weekend on a beautiful farm in a rustic setting.
The trip is free to Mississippi State students, but space is limited. Please complete and submit the program information sheet at www.maroonedition.msstate.edu/heifer, and then fill out the registration form and send it to Joe Witt at jwitt@philrel.msstate.edu.
All registrations are due no later than Friday [Sept. 26].
Please note that, due to overwhelming interest in previous years, we have added a mandatory application paragraph to the registration form. This will be used to select the final set of participants.
There will be a group orientation meeting in early October, and then travel to Heifer on Oct. 23, which is the first day of fall break at MSU, before returning to campus on the evening of Oct. 25.
Please contact Witt or Carolyn Huntington at chuntington@ads.msstate.edu if you have any questions.
