STARKVILLE, Miss.--For the third year, a comprehensive computer-based program at Mississippi State is informing university football fans and others about the many campus activities scheduled during fall home-game weekends.
Launched Monday [Aug. 7], the 2006 MSU Game Day Web site -- www.gameday.msstate.edu -- is a one-stop directory of activities that includes hours of operation, contact persons and other information. Where available, links will be provided for activities with separate Web addresses.
"Last fall, this site received more than 70,000 'hits,'" said Jimmy Abraham, executive director of the MSU Alumni Association. "We expect even more to visit this year."
A nighttime event being televised nationally by ESPN Thursday, Aug. 31, the Bulldogs' first home stand will be a Southeastern Conference battle with the Steve Spurrier-coached South Carolina Gamecocks.
Abraham, who also is associate vice president for external affairs, said the varied activities "are designed both to enhance the game-day experience and give Mississippi State the opportunity to showcase our many offerings and proud accomplishments.
"The thousands who will be coming to support Coach Sylvester Croom and our Bulldog team should now be better able to interact with the institution and with each other," he added. "We also believe this Web site will benefit the visiting team's supporters."
University units recently received instructions on how to place their information on the site. Only on-campus entities may contribute.
In addition to South Carolina, MSU's home football schedule includes Auburn, Sept. 9; Tulane, Sept. 16; West Virginia, Oct. 7; Jacksonville State, Oct. 14 (Homecoming); Kentucky, Oct. 28; and Arkansas, Nov. 18.
