Undergraduates at Mississippi State are invited to submit an essay based on this year's Maroon Edition book, "The Invisible Girls: A Memoir" by Sarah Thebarge.
Freshman will compete in one category, while upperclassmen will make up the other. For each contest, first place will win $500, second place will receive $300 for and third place will get $100.
Topics include 1) what causes invisibility, 2) who determines invisibility, 3) how service benefits those providing the service, and 4) the Maroon Edition's treatment of beginnings and endings.
Visit www.maroonedition.msstate.edu/contest for specific information about prospective topics to explore in the essay.
The composition should be no longer than 1,000 words double-spaced in Times New Roman 12-point font. The writer should not put his or her name on the essay itself, but should include a cover sheet with the writer's name, NetID, telephone number, and contest classification (freshmen or upperclassman). Also include on the cover sheet MSU's Honor Code: âAs a Mississippi State University student, I will conduct myself with honor and integrity at all times. I will not lie, cheat, or steal, nor will I accept the actions of those who do.â Center the title on the first page.
Submit your essay by midnight on Nov. 7 to essaycontest@msstate.edu as an attached Microsoft Word document.
