MSU's Staff Council is partnering with the Alzheimer's Association, Mississippi Chapter, to offer special programming for family members/caretakers of Alzheimer's patients and for anyone interested in learning more about this disease. The program is open to all university staff, students, and faculty, as well as the community. Staff Council is offering this as part of its mission to provide relevant programming for staff development. All sessions are in Bost Theatre.
Wednesday [April 4]:
8:30 a.m.-Alzheimer's 101, 1 hour
9:30 a.m.-Know the 10 Signs, 1 hour
10:30 a.m.-Communication and Behavior Challenges for Caregivers, 1 hour

2 p.m.-Know the 10 Signs, 1 hour
3 p.m.-Communication and Behavior Challenges for Caregivers, 1 hour
Thursday [April 5]:
8 a.m.-Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers-Early Stages, 1.5 hours
9:30 a.m.-Middle Stages, 2 hrs
Programming will be presented by Sara Murphy, Outreach Coordinator, Alzheimer's Association. The Alzheimer's Association, Mississippi Chapter (www.alz.org/ms), helps to enhance the care and support for caregivers by providing a number of services, including community-wide education programming and a 24/7 helpline (800-272-3900). The programs are designed to increase the understanding of Alzheimer's, identify ways to maintain brain health, teach coping skills for difficult communication and behaviors, and identify resources for daily living, medical care, and legal assistance.
