Experts at Mississippi State are hosting Get Smart About Credit Day on Wednesday [Oct. 20]. As part of Get Smart About Credit Week, several financial education sessions will be held in the Colvard Student Union Dawg House from 10 a.m.-4 p.m.
National expert Jennifer Johnson, from the Center for Responsible Lending in Washington, D.C., will conduct sessions at 12:05 p.m. and 3:05 p.m. on the "High Cost of Small Dollar Loans" (i.e payday lending and car title loans). Bobbie Shaffett, Extension professor in the School of Human Sciences, will conduct sessions on "Credit Scoring" at 10:15 a.m. and the "New Credit Card Rules" at 2:05 p.m. Various campus experts will answer questions about credit, financial aid, and predatory lending at 1:15 p.m.
A Fair Lending Education Forum in Bost Extension Building B will feature Johnson, along with other national lending industry experts. The panel will also include local experts and elected officials, including Starkville Mayor Parker Wiseman. Registration and networking will begin a 6 p.m. and the program will start at 6:30 p.m.
