Mississippi State's Black Student Alliance and the department of Outreach and Sexual Assault Services invite you to "Living with Aids" on Sept. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Colvard Student Union's Foster Ballroom.
The event features Emmy Award-winning AIDS activist Rae Lewis-Thornton who rose to national acclaim when telling her story of living with AIDS in Essence magazine. She has been living with HIV for 27 years and AIDS for 17 years. Despite her HIV status, Lewis-Thornton has spent the past 15 years traveling worldwide to educate and challenge the young and old to take control of their own bodies, futures and health. She uses her life as an example that AIDS is non-discriminatory, while she challenges the most common myths and stereotypes surrounding the disease.
Lewis-Thornton also has been featured in many other magazines and newspapers including Ebony, Jet, Emerge, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Glamour, and in many several national newspapers. She also has been seen on NBC's Dateline and CNN, while also appearing on TV documentaries on HIV and AIDS.
