Take precautions to avoid heat illness

With the arrival of summer's hot and humid temperatures, the MSU Safety Committee wants to remind everyone that heat illness can be deadly.

When the body is unable to cool itself by sweating, several heat-induced illnesses can occur and can result in death.

Make sure that when you and others are outside for a long period of time, you monitor yourselves and each other; block out direct sun or other heat sources; drink plenty of water (about 1 cup every 15 minutes); wear lightweight, light colored, loose-fitting clothing; and avoid alcohol, caffeinated drinks and heavy meals.

Let's make sure we all enjoy our summer and are safe in the process.
