MSU announces major fall semester dates

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Aug. 18 is the first class day of Mississippi State's 2008 fall semester.

For residents of campus housing, "check-in" activities will get under way at 8 a.m. Aug. 9 at Humphrey Coliseum. From that prominent campus location, students and their parents will be directed to the 15 housing facilities spread throughout the university.

Aug. 14 and 15 are the final days to complete regular registration and pay tuition and fees. The 15th also is new-student orientation day for all who didn't attend the June sessions.

Late registration and semester course additions continue through Aug. 25.

Other major dates for the school year's first semester include:

--Sept. 1, Labor Day holiday. (University offices closed.)

--Oct. 6 and 7, fall break. (No classes, but campus administrative offices open.)

--Oct. 25, Homecoming for MSU alumni and friends, held in conjunction with the campus football game with Middle Tennessee State University.

--Nov. 26-28, Thanksgiving holidays. (No classes for students on the 26th, but administrative offices open. Campus offices closed on the 27th and 28th.)

--Dec. 2, fall semester classes conclude.

--Dec. 4-10, final examinations.

--Dec. 12 and 13, Friday night and Saturday morning commencement programs in Humphrey Coliseum.

--Dec. 23-Jan. 2, winter holidays. (Campus offices closed.)

--Jan. 7, 2009 spring semester classes begin.
