A Feb. 26 memorial service at Mississippi State will honor an English instructor who died recently from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
The life of Linda O. Brasher will be honored at a 3:30 p.m. service in the university's Chapel of Memories.
Brasher directed the English department's undergraduate studies program and taught courses in composition and American literature. She died Dec. 20, 2003.
"Linda was a hard-working, committed educator with a great sense of humor and an authentically sunny disposition," said Richard J. Lyons, a departmental colleague who is coordinating the tribute.
Lyons will be among several department members joining with Brasher's former students and others to speak during the hour-long program.
A Tupelo native, Brasher received both her bachelor's and master's degrees in English from Mississippi State. At the time of her death, she had completed course requirements for a doctorate in the field.
"She loved music and played both piano and organ for several area churches," Lyons recalled. Praising Brasher's professional and personal attributes, he added, "She is and will continue to be deeply missed."
