STARKVILLE, Miss.—A group of West Point citizens visited Mississippi State Thursday [Feb. 7] to present a $3,500 check from the West Point Country Club to the university’s G.V. “Sonny” Montgomery Center for America’s Veterans. The funds, raised in conjunction with the city of West Point’s 2018 Veterans Day Parade, will directly support MSU’s military-connected students.

Pictured, from left, are West Point citizens Mike Goree, Presley Hutchins, Rudy Jones and David Sawtelle, presenting the check to Lt. Col. (Ret.) Brian Locke, director of the MSU veterans center.

The check presentation ceremony also was attended by West Point JROTC cadets, who heard from MSU student veterans Daniel Wells and Ariel A. De Leon Montes about their experiences in the military and at MSU. The university is nationally recognized for its support of student veterans and was recently named a top 10 Military Friendly School by VIQTORY, formerly Victory Media.

MSU is Mississippi’s leading university, available online at www.msstate.edu.
