STARKVILLE, Miss.--Mississippi State students--and alumni--will have the opportunity next week to shake hands and share resumes with employer representatives from around the country.

The university's annual spring semester Career Days event takes place Tuesday [Feb. 4] and Wednesday [Feb. 5]. Free and open to all majors, the noon-4 p.m. event will be held in Humphrey Coliseum.

Each year, MSU holds career fairs in early February and September, prior to the beginning of on-campus recruiting.

Preregistration is not required. Participants will register upon arrival and be provided a list of employers that are in attendance.

"Approximately 175 employers and more than 1,200 students and alumni participate in this event each year," said Leslie Neal, an MSU Career Center coordinator. "We have more than 120 recruiters that have registered."

Neal said Business and Non-Technical Career Day takes place Tuesday, with the Engineering and Technical Career Day following on Wednesday.

After check-in with a Career Center representative, each student will receive a name tag that lists the academic major and classification.

"In order for their name tag to have their current major and classification, we suggest that students update their profile information on their 'Connections' account at www.career.msstate.edu," Neal emphasized.

Business professional attire is highly recommended, and students should bring several copies of their resume, she added.

"We encourage students to bring their resumes by the Career Center to be critiqued prior to the event, so that they are as professional as possible before being presented to employers," Neal said.

Because opportunities to engage large numbers of employers during a single event will be rare after graduation, Neal said she and other Career Center staff members regularly encourage students to seize this opportunity to make a lasting professional impression.

"MSU students and alumni should consider this an opportunity to discuss their career interests and skill set with potential employers, collect company literature and network with everyone at the fair," she said.
