STARKVILLE, Miss.—Under the direction of Mississippi State University Department of Music Head Barry E. Kopetz, the Starkville-MSU Symphony Orchestra is presenting a “Strings Across the Sea” children’s program Friday [Jan. 20] on the Starkville campus.
Free to all, the 7:30 p.m. program at historic Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium is made possible by the Starkville-MSU Symphony Association. Additional support is provided by MSU’s Office of the President, the Mississippi Arts Commission, 4-County Electric Education Foundation, and CREATE Tupelo, along with individual gifts.
The performance will feature eight visiting Japanese violinists. Song selections include Antonio Vivaldi’s (1678-1741) “Four Seasons, Op. 8,” Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s (1756-91) “Eine Kleine Nachtmusik, K. 525,” Shinichi Suzuki’s (1898-1998) “Selections from Suzuki Vol. 1-7,” and Mozart’s “Piano Concerto No. 20 in d minor, K. 466.”
Steinway Artist Rosângela Yazbec Sebba, the department’s professor of piano, theory and ear training, will perform the piano concerto.
Earlier on Friday, the symphony orchestra is sponsoring 9 a.m., 10:45 a.m. and 1 p.m. programs at Lee Hall’s Bettersworth Auditorium for hundreds of kindergarten through fifth grade students from local schools.
