MSU holding essay contest for high school students

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Magnolia State high school students are invited to enter the Mississippi State University 2015 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Essay Contest.

Ninth-12th graders enrolled in any Mississippi high school may respond to the 2015 theme question, "The Enduring Legacy of Dr. King: How Does His Legacy of Social Justice and Non-violent Change Continue to Resonate in American Culture and Society?"

Typed, double-spaced essays should include page numbers and 1,000 words or fewer. Submissions must be entered online by Dec. 31.

Winners will be notified Jan. 9, and first place will receive $1,000; second will get $500 and third, $250. Also, the top three winners will receive plaques. The first-place awardee will have lunch with MSU President Mark E. Keenum and read his or her essay at MSU's annual MLK Jr. Day Breakfast on Jan. 19, set to begin at 7 a.m. in Colvard Student Union.

MSU's Office of the President is sponsoring the contest, conducted by the Office of Inclusive Excellence.
