Contact: Sammy McDavid

More than 200 high school students are expected Feb. 25-27 at Mississippi State for the university's annual Mississippi Model Security Council.

Held on campus for more than three decades, the academic simulation of the United Nations Security Council is designed to educate participants about international relations, public responsibility, effective communication, and multilateral diplomacy, among other things. It is the state's only collegiate Model UN conference.

Bismark Myrick, retired United States ambassador to the Republic of Liberia (1999-2002) and Lesotho (1995-98), is guest diplomat for the 2010 sessions. A Virginia native, he is a decorated veteran of the U.S. Army and State Department.

State high schools sending delegations and faculty advisers include DeSoto Central, Brandon, Franklin, Hancock, Hebron Christian, Houston, Jackson Preparatory, Newton County, Northwest Rankin, Starkville, and Pillow Academy.

Organized by the department of political science and public administration, the event also is supported by MSU's offices of the vice presidents for finance and administration and provost and academic affairs, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and Shackouls Honors College.
