Nine competing Friday night for Miss MSU 2015

STARKVILLE, Miss.--Two each freshmen, sophomores and seniors, along with three juniors, are seeking the title of Miss Mississippi State University 2015.

Taking place Friday [Oct. 10], the annual pageant gets under way at 7 p.m. in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium.

General admission is $15; $10 for enrolled MSU students with identification. Tickets may be purchased online at www.events.msstate.edu/tickets or from the Center for Student Activities in Colvard Student Union, Suite 314.

The winner will represent the university next summer in the Miss Mississippi Pageant at Vicksburg. The winner there advances to the Miss America Pageant.

Residents of eight Mississippi cities and one in Alabama, this year's contestants include (by hometown):

AMORY--Senior Randi Kathryn Harmon, a communication/public relations major and the daughter of Randy and Cindy Harmon. A 2011 Amory High School and 2013 Itawamba Community College graduate, she will be singing "Let It Go" from the Disney classic "Frozen." Her platform is P.E.A.C.E. for Children (Physical Exercise And Careful Eating).

CULLMAN, Ala.--Junior Lacy K. Trelles, a political science major and the daughter of David and Kim Trelles. A 2012 Cullman High School graduate, she will be singing "Via Dolorosa" by Sandi Patty. Her platform is Alzheimer's: Research, Cure, Awareness.

FLORENCE--Junior India E. Byrd, a biological science/pre-medical major and the daughter of Tommy and Lauri Byrd. A 2012 Florence High School graduate, she will be dancing to "Don't Forget Me" by Marc Shaiman and Scott Wittman. Her platform is R.A.R.E (Raising Awareness while Raising Emma).

KOSCIUSKO--Junior Meredith R. Thomas, a biological science major and the daughter of Eddie and Angela Thomas. A 2012 Kosciusko High School graduate, she will perform on piano

Maksim Mrvica's "Cubana Cubana." Her platform is Drive Now Text Later.

MOSS POINT--Senior Kristi E. Bradley, an educational psychology major and the daughter of Rick and Beth Bradley. A 2011 East Central High School and 2013 Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College graduate, she will be singing "On My Knees" by Jaci Velasquez. Her platform is Children with Disabilities.

PONTOTOC--Sophomore Nikki Fauver, a biological science major and the daughter of Timothy Le'Wayne and Tammy June Andrews Fauver. A 2012 Pontotoc High School graduate, she will be performing ballet en pointe to "Piano Fantasy" by William Joseph. Her platform is Breast Cancer Education and Awareness.

PONTOTOC--Sophomore Hannah Whitlock, a biological science/pre-dental major and the daughter of Rod and Paula Whitlock. A 2013 North Pontotoc Attendance Center graduate, she will perform on piano Ronald Bennett's "Shooting the Rapids." Her platform is Reading for Success.

RIPLEY--Freshman Madison L. Greer, a chemistry major and the daughter of Ricky Greer and Shea Mask. A 2014 Ripley High School graduate, she will be dancing to "Chandelier" by Sia. Her platform is NEXT Worldwide.

SHANNON--Freshman Alivia P. Roberts, a communication/broadcasting major and the daughter of Kenneth and Teresa Fields Roberts. A 2014 Shannon High School graduate, she will be performing ballet en pointe to "Storm" by Antonio Vivaldi. Her platform is Healthy Teens for a Better Mississippi: Teenage Pregnancy Prevention.
