STARKVILLE, Miss. --Mississippi State University's health education and wellness department next week will host a diabetes awareness fair in observance of American Diabetes Month.

The Thursday [Nov. 6] event to take place from 10 a.m.--2 p.m. is designed to increase understanding about the seriousness of diabetes, as well as provide information about risk factors and other resources. Organizers are preparing displays on fitness, nutrition, and diabetes myths, among others.

Free and open to all, the event will take place in the Colvard Student Union's Dawg House.

Health screenings will be offered to check blood glucose and blood pressure, and information on topics such as diabetes management and prevention strategies will be available. Food samples and refreshments will be served.

Health education and wellness organizer Amanda Pugh said the fall themed event also will feature games and prizes.

"We will have things that embody the goodness of the fall season," she said.

Door prizes will be awarded throughout the fair, including a grocery bag full of chili ingredients, an MSU game day gift bag, and health education and wellness goodies.
