STARKVILLE, Miss. -- Wendy B. Scott, dean of Mississippi College's School of Law, will be a special guest next week at Mississippi State University's United States Constitution Day program.

Sponsored by the Office of the Provost and Executive Vice President and the Department of Political Science and Public Administration, the free, public event will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday [Sept. 17] in the university's Leo W. Seal M-Club Center.

A New York University School of Law Juris Doctor graduate whose scholarship has focused on constitutional theory and school desegregation, Scott plans to discuss the U.S. Constitution in the context of international constitutionalism. She also holds a bachelor's in philosophy from Harvard University.

Prior to joining the Mississippi College School of Law in August, she taught for eight years and later served for three years as associate dean for academic affairs at the North Carolina Central University School of Law. She also taught for 17 years and served as vice dean for academic affairs at Tulane Law School in New Orleans.

Early in her career, Scott focused on employment law while working as a staff attorney at the Legal Action Center of the City of New York and an associate at Vladeck, Waldman, Elias and Engelhard in New York City. She also directed litigation as the associate counsel for the Center for Law and Social Justice, a community law office in Brooklyn, New York.

A member of the New York bar, Scott has been admitted to practice in the United States Supreme Court.

She also has served in a number of positions with Baptist institutions, alongside her husband, Reverend Eddie Scott. Together, the Scotts are the parents of a 15-year-old son, Christian.
