Mississippi State University Libraries’ Morris W.H. (Bill) Collins Speaker Series continues on Monday [Nov. 18] with Blake A. Wilson, president and chief executive office of the Mississippi Economic Council.

The event will be held in Mitchell Memorial Library’s John Grisham Room beginning at 3 p.m.

The Mississippi Economic Council serves as a statewide chamber of commerce in the Magnolia State. During the last 16 years, MEC has more than doubled the number of paid membership accounts, tripled operating revenues and increased member participation from dues-paying companies, seven times.

MEC has become a grassroots force for positive change in Mississippi -- in economic development, education and business climate and image.

Wilson began his career in membership at the Delaware Chamber of Commerce, where he worked for nearly 10 years. He spent three years as executive director of the Associated Builders and Contractors, Delaware Chapter and five years at the Florida Chamber of Commerce in membership, marketing and governmental relations. He is a former newspaper reporter and editor, having worked for newspapers in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware.

Wilson lives in Brandon with his wife, Ann, a public school teacher. They are the parents of three grown children.

The Morris W.H. (Bill) Collins Speaker Series is sponsored by MSU Libraries, MSU's John C. Stennis Institute of Government, the Stennis Center for Public Service Leadership, the Congressional and Political Research Center and the Stennis Montgomery Association. The Collins Speaker Series brings leading figures of the day to the MSU campus to engage in close, personal discussions about their lives and careers.
