MSU's Service DAWGS Day volunteers give back to community

STARKVILLE, Miss.--More than 350 Mississippi State volunteers will work on projects throughout the Golden Triangle on the university's annual Service DAWGS Day Tuesday [Aug. 13].

Vice President for Student Affairs Bill Kibler will kick off the event with a welcome as participants complete registration and receive team assignments before departing to 30 community work sites. The projects will be complete by 12:30 p.m., after which participants will be treated to lunch at the Junction.

Service locations will include Aiken Village Preschool, American Red Cross, Starkville Boys and Girls Club, Camp Seminole, Clay County Day Care Center, Columbus East Lions Club, Emerson Family Resource Center, Emerson Fresh Start Program, Emerson Preschool, Gaining Ground, George Evans Park/Gillespie Center, Girl Scouts of the Golden Triangle, Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity, J.L. King Park, James W. Hunt Community Home, Oktibbeha County Heritage Museum, Oktibbeha County Humane Society, OSERVS, Palmer Children's Home, Palmer Home Thrift Store Columbus, Palmer Home Thrift Store Starkville, Sally Kate Winters, Starkville Cemetery Association, Starkville Community Garden, Starkville Community Market, Starkville Manor, Starkville Public Library, Sudduth Elementary, MSU T.K. Martin Center and Volunteer Starkville.

Offices and organizations that have helped make Service DAWGS Day 2013 possible include the Office of Student Leadership and Community Engagement, Office of the Provost, Dawg DAZE, Holmes Cultural Diversity Center, Alumni Association, Barnes & Noble at Mississippi State, MSU Dining Services, Alpha Phi Omega, Service DAWGS, Up Til' Dawn, American Veterans Association and the International Student Organization for Languages and Cultures.
