'Send Silence Packing' represents suicide victims

"Send Silence Packing" will be held Tuesday [March 26], from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., in front of State Fountain Bakery and Subway restaurant. "Send Silence Packing" is an event representing suicide victims on college campuses and is meant to end the silence about suicide, and to open the eyes of students to let them see the severity of suicide numbers. Hundreds of backpacks will be spread out on campus, containing personal stories and statictics on suicide.

Suicide claims the lives of more than 1,100 college students each year. "Send Silence Packing" is an award-winning program to promote a dialogue about mental health issues on campus and combat the incidence of student suicide.

This event is sponsored by Active Minds, a student organization. For more information, contact Brittany Williams, at 901-490-9910, or organization advisers Kim Kavalsky and Aretina Hankerson-Daniels at 325-2090.
