STARKVILLE, Miss.--All aspects of the Mississippi State University Police Department's policy and procedures, management, operations, and support services will be examined this month by an assessment team from the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc.

As part of the on-site visit, university employees and community members are invited to a public information session Dec. 13 at 6 p.m. in McCool Hall, Room 100.

According to MSU Police Chief Georgia Lindley, the process to gain reaccreditation is voluntary, verifying that the department continues to meet the Commission's state-of-the-art standards.

"It is a highly prized recognition of law enforcement professional excellence," she said.

If for some reason an individual cannot speak at the public session but would like to provide comments to the assessment team, he/she may do so by telephone. The public may call 662-418-1507 on the meeting date between 1:30 and 3:30 p.m.

Telephone comments, as well as public session appearances, are limited to 10 minutes and must address the department's ability to comply with CALEA's standards. A copy of the standards is available for viewing in the department.

Those wishing to offer written comments about the MSU Police Department's ability to meet the accreditation standards are requested to write: Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies Inc., 13575 Heathcote Boulevard, Suite 320, Gainesville, Va. 20155 or e-mail calea@calea.org.
