NEW Leadership program now open for applications

A May 20-24 leadership program at Mississippi University for Women is now open for applications from Mississippi college women.

Called NEW Leadership, the national bipartisan program developed originally by Rutgers University is a partnership between The W and Starkville-based John C. Stennis Center for Public Service. Drawing on the expertise of state, regional and national leaders, the five-day residential program will educate college women about ways they can become more involved in public service and the political process.

The program is open to any undergraduate college woman attending a community college, college or university in Mississippi, or any female resident of Mississippi pursuing a bachelor’s degree out of state. There is no cost to participants.

Students selected for the program will interact with three faculty-in-residence, as well as hear from a variety of women who have excelled in public service roles within Mississippi.

Students also will hear a keynote address by Amy Tuck, a two-term Mississippi lieutenant governor who currently serves as vice president for campus operations at Mississippi State University.
