City's 175th birthday celebrated by MSU Libraries

MSU Libraries hosts "Growing Up in Starkville," Thursday [Feb. 28], at 7 p.m., in the Grisham Room. The event is one in a series of discussions sponsored by the Greater Starkville Development Partnership on the history and evolution of the city and surrounding areas.

Series speakers have been involved in the Starkville area and in preserving its history. Dero Ramsey is the great-great-grandson of Starkville’s first mayor David Haines. Ruby Nash Davis was crowned queen during the 175th birthday celebration in October. Pat Lane is a well-known real estate agent, and Parker Wiseman is the current mayor. Come hear what these local celebrities have to say about growing up in Starkville.

Future events in this series include a discussion of Starkville’s architectural history and how it has influenced modern developments; memories of growing up in Oktoc, 10 miles south of Starkville; and stories about the relationship between Starkville and Mississippi State University.
