Freezing rain advisory in effect for MSU campus

The National Weather Service in Jackson has issued a freezing rain advisory, which is in effect until 6 p.m. this evening. However, it is quite likely that the ice warning will be extended in time through Tuesday morning. Freezing rain will be possible through the afternoon and slowly taper off through the evening hours. Ice accumulation will generally be less than 0.10 inches with most accumulations expected over bridges and overpasses and on trees and power lines. Such icing will cause dangerous travel conditions on elevated surfaces--particularly on bridges and overpasses. Additionally, accumulating ice on trees and power lines may cause them to fall, resulting in downed lines and subsequent power outages. A freezing rain advisory means that periods of freezing rain or freezing drizzle will cause travel difficulties. Be prepared for slippery roads. Slow down and use caution while driving.
