The Mississippi State University Wind Ensemble presents its first campus concert of the 2012-13 season Thursday [Nov. 1] in the McComas Hall main theater.

The free 7:30 p.m. performance will open with Paul Dukas' fanfare from the ballet, "La Péri." Also featured will be selections by composers Carlos Gomez, Percy Grainger, Claude Smith, and Phillip Sparke. Director of bands Elva Kaye Lance will share the podium with associate conductors Craig Aarhus and Cliff Taylor.

Taylor also will conduct the MSU jazz ensemble's presentation of "I Mean You."

The MSU music department's 2012 alumna of the year, clarinetist Paula Beck Corley, will join the ensemble for George Gershwin's hit, "But Not For Me." A 1979 music education graduate, Corley is a Texas Lutheran University clarinet professor who regularly serves as a featured clinician at conferences around the country.

The 74-member wind ensemble is MSU's premier concert band. Members are advanced musicians selected by competitive audition and represent degree programs across campus.
