STARKVILLE, Miss.--A continuing education conference covering current issues important to Mississippi's legal community will be held Oct. 19 at Mississippi State.
Sponsored by the university's political science and public administration department, the Continuing Legal Education Seminar for Bulldog Lawyers will involve presentations by Lt. Gov. Tate Reeves, Chief Justice Bill Waller of the Mississippi Supreme Court and eight other authorities on state law and justice.
Part of MSU fall Homecoming Weekend, the 8 a.m.-5 p.m. event takes place in the Colvard Student Union's Bill Foster Ballroom. Registration is $225 and is available at http://www.msstate.edu/web/law/.
"We are fortunate to have such a variety of MSU alumni attorneys and judges, among the best lawyers and judges in Mississippi, presenting at the seminar," said departmental instructor Whit Waide.
"It is important to make an effort to keep our lawyer alumni connected with MSU both for their benefit and for the benefit of our students who hope to attend law school," he added.
Waide is adviser to the MSU Pre-Law Society, which for more than three decades has recognized annually leaders in the profession with its Distinguished Jurist Award.
Higher education law, state administrative practice, and legislative updates are among the seminar topics. Taking a break from legal matters, participants also will tour Humphrey Coliseum and adjoining Mize Basketball Practice Pavilion, then have lunch with men's head basketball coach Rick Ray and athletic director Scott Stricklin.
A reception at the MSU President's Home will conclude the day's events.
