STARKVILLE, Miss.--As the November presidential election quickly approaches, Mississippi State's Lyceum Series is offering a special political-season treat.
The nationally famous "Capitol Steps" troupe brings its no-holds-barred satirical show to the university for an Oct. 11 performance in Lee Hall's Bettersworth Auditorium.
The 7:30 p.m. program inaugurates a 2012-13 Lyceum season that will involve some changes from the norm, due to major Lee Hall renovations now under way.
Persons attending now must enter and exit only through the east-side--nearest to McCain Hall--doors. Also, because construction currently blocks the second- and third-floor balconies, attendance must be limited to the 514-seat first floor.
All seats--including those of season-ticket holders--also temporarily are considered general admission. As always, MSU students are admitted free with identification.

Since forming in late 1981 to perform song parodies and skits that skewer the American political scene, the Capitol Steps work proudly under the motto "We put the MOCK in democracy!"
Originally all staffers for then-U.S. Sen. Charles Percy of Illinois, they were encouraged to take the one-time, special-event routine out to general audiences. The rest is political satire history.
To date, the Steps have recorded more than 30 albums, including their latest, "Take the Money and Run--for President." In addition to being featured on the major commercial and public television networks, they appear four times a year on "Politics Takes a Vacation," the National Public Radio special production.
Over the decades, the more than 30-person assemblage has evolved to include some non-Capitol Hill staffers. Today, however, it still represents more than 60 combined years of House and Senate working experience. For more, visit www.capsteps.com/
