A solo exhibition by Mississippi State alumnus Will Bryant will run Aug. 28-Oct. 3 in the McComas Hall Gallery.
"Retrospectacle" explores themes of success, failure, recognition, looking forward and looking back. Described as "tongue-in-cheek," the exhibit is made up of installations, screen prints, cake eating, paintings, drawings, and other art objects.
An opening reception, which is free and open to the public, will be Tuesday [Aug. 28] from 5:30-7:30 p.m. The 2008 graphic design graduate will speak about his work during a 12 p.m. public lecture Wednesday [Aug. 29] in the Giles Hall Robert and Freda Harrison Auditorium. A lecture for students and faculty will be later that day at 3 p.m. in Stafford Hall room 200.
Bryant works as an independent illustrator and designer in Portland, Ore., and works with major clients such as Chronicle Books, New York Times Magazine, Nike, and Ray-Ban. He is pursuing his master of fine arts in the studio practice program at Portland State University, where he also teaches classes in the design department.
The artist's work varies in form, context and topic, which he says is a critical factor to both his commercial success and his everyday happiness.
"Keeping things crazy keeps things fun," Bryant said.
The McComas Hall Gallery is open 10 a.m.-4 p.m., Tuesday-Friday.
