STARKVILLE, Miss.--Three Mississippi State art majors specializing in photography are having their creative works featured in a national publication.
University seniors Ioana S. Demian of Starkville and Steve A. Joshlin of Tippah, along with junior Heidi J. Robinson of Madison, recently were notified that their submitted images are finalists in the 31st Annual Student Photography Contest. Demian had two selected; Joshlin and Robinson, one each.
As a result, the four MSU entries are being featured in the Best of College Photography 2011 display of Photographer' Forum magazine. [Ed note: Images accompany this story.]
Established in 1977, Photographer's Forum is an award-winning quarterly based in Santa Barbara, Calif., devoted to the quality reproduction of photography in the United States and Canada. Nikon USA sponsors the collegiate competition.
More than 3,500 students worldwide participated this year. The judging team came from the Rochester (N.Y.) Institute of Technology, Pasadena's Art Center College of Design and Santa Barbara's Brooks Institute.
"I am not surprised these students were selected as finalists," said professor Marita Gootee. "They all are exceptional students and extremely talented."
Gootee, a veteran MSU faculty member and award-winning photographer, heads the art department's photography program.
