STARKVILLE, Miss.--The Student Association and its Freshman Council at Mississippi State are seeking Starkville and Oktibbeha County organizations to benefit from the groups' third annual day of community service and volunteerism.
To be held April 8, "The 2011 Big Event" currently is encouraging leaders of local service organizations, community agencies and churches to make contact by March 25 if they desire a day of assistance by student teams. Painting, cleaning and yard maintenance are among the free services offered.
"Depending on the size of the job, student manpower for these projects could range from 10 students performing one hour of work to a maximum of 35 volunteers in a six-hour time period," said Hannah Rachel Cardin, Freshman Council director.
Applications may be completed at www.msubigevent.com. The application form also may be printed out and mailed to Cardin in care of the MSU Freshman Council, P. O. Box 4525, Mississippi State, MS 39762.
The Friday work schedule will take place 9 a.m.-3 p.m., she added, noting that the Salvation Army, Montgomery Gardens and several churches are among previous Big Event beneficiaries.
With offices on the third floor of the Colvard Student Union, the SA serves as the representative and liaison body between students and university officials. "The Big Event" is among several service projects it undertakes each year.
