STARKVILLE, Miss.--President George W. Bush is announcing his intention to designate Mississippi State President Robert H. "Doc" Foglesong as a member and co-chair of the U.S.-Russia Joint Commission on POW/MIAs.

The White House announcement was made Tuesday [April 25].

A Department of Defense organization of four working groups, the commission was formed in 1992 and meets annually. The collaborative effort between the two nations works to locate missing servicemen in conflicts from World War II through the Cold War.

A former four-star general, Foglesong retired Feb. 1 as commander of U. S. Air Force Europe and was named president of MSU March 28. During a 33-year military career that saw him pilot most aircraft in the U.S. military inventory, he held a number of other major leadership positions, including USAF vice commander.
