A six-hour non-credit course in wine appreciation and tasting is being offered at Mississippi State on three consecutive Thursday evenings during April.
Provided through the university's Division of Continuing Education to interested persons 21 years of age and older, the limited-enrollment classes meet on the 11th, 18th and 25th in A.B. McKay Food and Enology Laboratory. The facility is located north of the central campus and adjacent to the Mississippi Research and Technology Park on U.S. Highway 82.
Lab coordinator Cary L. Sutphin will lead the 6:30-8:30 p.m. sessions in wine facts, interpretation of restaurant wine lists, home storage, proper serving techniques, and taste testing, among other topics. The registration fee is $100.
A widely recognized chef and food researcher, Sutphin is a member of the American Culinary Federation, Society of Wine Educators, National Association of Caterers, Les Amin du Vin, Confrerie de la Chaine des Rotisseures, American Institute of Wine and Food, and Epicures of Wine.
He is an honors graduate of New York's Culinary Institute of America and has received special recognition from the Mississippi Restaurant Association, Catfish Farmers of America and National Association of College and University Food Services.
