Nine seniors in Mississippi State's College of Engineering are being honored for outstanding achievements during their university study.
The two women and seven men are ranked first in each of the college's different academic programs. They recently were recognized at a campus banquet honoring the top 15 percent of the combined 2001 senior engineering class.
"This is an outstanding group of young people who have excelled in more than just academics," said Dean Wayne Bennett. "They are being honored for what they have done in the classroom and activities that include participation in the university's cooperative education program, regional and national events sponsored by professional organizations and other extracurricular activities."
Awards program sponsors this year include Adtran Inc., Chevron Corp., Diversified Technology Inc., Eaton Corp., Exxon-Mobil Corp., Howard Industries, Nissan Motor Co., Shell Oil Co., Smith & Nephew Inc., Tennessee Valley Authority, and Waggoner Engineering Inc.
"Sponsoring the annual banquet and the senior awards program is just one of the ways these companies and organizations support engineering education," Bennett said.
