The Southeast's top high school seniors will be recognized Nov. 3 at Mississippi State University.

Students with high American College or Scholastic Aptitude test scores recently received new invitations from President Malcolm Portera. Each has achieved either a composite ACT score of at least 28 (out of a maximum 36) or the equivalent SAT score of 1240.

The November event originally was scheduled for a Saturday in mid-September. The original 2001 Scholars' Recognition Day program was called off when terrorist attacks on New York and Washington caused Southeastern Conference football games to be cancelled. Participants traditionally conclude the daylong fall event as special guests for an MSU football game.

Sponsored by the MSU Alumni Association, Scholars Recognition Day also includes a breakfast sponsored by the University Honors Program, campus tours, an informal barbecue lunch with Portera and other campus leaders, and meetings with, among others, academic deans and faculty members in chosen or anticipated fields of study.

Additionally, information is provided on financial aid, scholarships, student life, housing, and the university's nationally recognized cooperative education program.
