A recent Aberdeen graphic arts graduate of Mississippi State University is being honored in a major competition drawing participants from around the world.
Amanda Clark is receiving the Merit Award of the ninth Annual HOW Magazine International Design Competition. Her recognition is among only 30 honors presented from more than 6,000 professional and student entries submitted for 2001 judging.
She received a bachelor's degree Saturday [May 12] during campus commencement.
Clark's design entry is an illustration for a children's book titled "The Sing-Song of Old Man Kangaroo." Specifically, her work includes a book cover and a two-page spread.
HOW: Design Ideas at Work is a six-time-a-year publication serving the graphic design profession. Among its issues is the International Design Annual.
"We are so very proud to have one of our students included in this most visible and respected venue," said department head Brent Funderburk. "Amanda is an outstanding student whose creative design talents will take her far in life.
"Our faculty and students have worked long and hard toward building a world-class art program here and Amanda's achievement verifies that we're on the right path," he added.
MSU's art department was established in 1968 and now enrolls the state's largest studio program. Bachelor's degrees are offered in fine art and graphic design; graduate degrees in animation and multimedia.
