Colorado wildlife biologist David R. Anderson will present the 2001 Carlton N. Owen Lecture May 9 at Mississippi State University.

Anderson, leader of the state's Cooperative Fish and Wildlife Research Unit based at Colorado State University, will lead two related public programs: a 9 a.m. speech and a 2 p.m. workshop. Both will take place in Thompson Hall's Tully Auditorium.

Anderson's presentations involve a new approach he developed for scientists to analyze data and test hypotheses. The topic is the subject of his recent book, "Model Selection and Inference: A Practical Information Theoretic Approach," which is co-authored with CSU colleague Ken Burnham.

He holds bachelor's and master's degrees from CSU and a doctorate from the University of Maryland. His research specialties include wildlife population dynamics, population estimation, survival experiments, and harvest theory, among others.

The Owen Lecture Series was established in 1992 by its Greenville, S.C., namesake to support public programs at MSU focusing on forest resource stewardship.
