Ten seniors, two juniors and a freshman are top winners of Mississippi State's 2000-01 Student Fine Art and Graphic Design Competition.
Sponsored by the university's art department, the recent event saw some 80 works selected for final judging from among more than 200 entries. Gary Chapman of the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Michael Schmidt of the University of Memphis were jurors.
Scholarships, cash prizes and merchandise totaling more than $3,000 were shared among the winners. In addition to individual patrons, this 29th annual competition was supported by the MSU Bookstore, Starkville's Campus Bookmart and The Chalet, and Camera Brookwood of Birmingham, Ala.
MSU's art program began in 1968 and has grown to become the state's largest. More than 300 majors currently are enrolled.

ATHENS, Ala.--Senior art major Meredith C. Jackson, who received the Creative Achievement Award in Graphic Design.
CORDOVA, Tenn.--Senior art major Catherine F. "Katie" Johnston, who received a Sponsors Award.
ECRU--Freshman art major Daniel C. Shumaker, who received a Sponsors Award.
GREENVILLE--Senior art major Samuel Lawson, who received the JoAnda and Warren F. Baumgartner Purchase Award and a Sponsors Award.
HOLLANDALE--Senior art major Wade Acuff, who received the Creative Achievement Award in Fine Arts.
PARIS, Tenn.--Senior art major Carolyn B. Horne, who received the Best of Show/Graphic Design Award and a Sponsors Award.
PHILADELPHIA--Junior art major Jon M. Morris, who received a Sponsors Award.
SANDHILL--Senior art major Dylan P. Karges, who received the Best of Show/Fine Arts Award, Chalet Acquisition Award and the L. Donovan Dodd Award in Ceramic Art.
SENATOBIA--Senior Tiffany N. Gaines, who received a Sponsors Award.
SLIDELL, La.--Junior Michael A. Curtis, a graphic design and business information services double major, who received the Ferretti-Karnstedt Scholarship.
