Three Mississippi women are being honored Friday [April 20] by Mississippi State for "exemplary leadership in education."
Jan Miller of Meridian, Eloise J. Richardson of Louisville and Evelyn White of Jackson are receiving the university's 2001 Jane A. Burrows Sargent Awards.
The MSU educational leadership department annually makes the presentations during a symposium also named in honor of Sargent, a veteran Mississippi educator who now heads the Jackson Public School System and is a member of the State Board of Education.
Miller is principal of Clarkdale Attendance Center in Lauderdale County; Richardson, director of adult education and general educational development diploma testing administrator for the State Board for Community and Junior Colleges; and White, dean of Jackson State University's School of Education.
The 4-5 p.m. public symposium will be held at the Lake Tiak O'Khata Resort near Louisville.
Now in its sixth year, the educational leadership awards program seeks to spotlight women who are distinguished practitioners and scholars at Mississippi's public schools and colleges, and have been recognized for improving the quality of education, among other criteria.
