Mississippi State's Division of Continuing Education is opening three new career development courses in the areas of health care and computer applications.

Two provide training for students seeking entry-level positions in the health care field. They include a:

--10-week pharmacy technician course focusing on medical terminology, including the reading and interpretation of prescriptions and dosage calculations and conversions; and a

--Seven-week medical billing and coding course dealing with problem-solving in insurance billing, billing procedures, claims processing, and the completion of insurance forms.

The medical billing course begins in April and both will be offered in September. Course sites include MSU and the Pearl Campus of Hinds Community College.

MSU's continuing education division also begins a training course this month for certification as a Microsoft office user specialist. The intensive eight-hour computer applications class in Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and Power Point will continue on the schedule throughout the summer and fall.
