More than 150 participants are expected April 10 and 11 in Raymond for the 31th annual Mississippi Water Resources Conference.

Organized by the Mississippi State University-based Mississippi Water Resources Research Institute, the gathering of professionals, students and interested citizens will take place at Hinds Community College's Eagle Ridge Conference Center.

Northern District Public Service Commissioner Bo Robinson of Hamilton is this year's keynote speaker. "A Water Crisis in Mississippi" will be the topic of his address, which begins at 8:40 a.m. in the center auditorium.

Also speaking at the opening session will be Stephen H. Schoenholtz, newly named director of the water resources research institute. Schoenholtz, an MSU professor of forest hydrology in the College of Forest Resources, succeeded Jonathan W. Pote in January.

The conference offers continuing education credit for operators of water supply and wastewater treatment facilities. Early registration must be completed by March 30.

In addition to the MSU-based institute, the conference is co-sponsored by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality's offices of Land and Water Resources and of Pollution Control; U.S. Geological Survey's Water Resources Division; and Mississippi Water Resources Association.
