For the first time in its more than two-decade history, the President's Commission on the Status of Women at Mississippi State will present the annual outstanding women awards at a free, public program.
A Wednesday [March 28] reception honoring the 2001 winners will take place 2-4 p.m. in the university's John Grisham Room of Mitchell Memorial Library.
Each year since its creation by MSU President James D. McComas in the late 1970s, the commission has recognized the accomplishments of women on campus, in the community and in the state. Undergraduate and graduate students also are honored at what previously was a fee-based luncheon.
The awards program now is co-sponsored by the Starkville branch of AmSouth Bank.
