A Mississippi State audience will hear the founder of Dell Computer Corp. Friday [March 2] via a live teleconference.

Michael Dell's presentation at 3 p.m. will be viewed by university students and faculty--and interested members of the general public--at the Swalm School of Chemical Engineering's Eastman Auditorium and in 138 McCool Hall.

He is chairman and chief executive officer of the world's leading direct computer sales operation. Started in 1984 with a $1,000 investment, the Austin, Texas-based company now employs 40,000 persons in 34 nations.

Following opening remarks, Dell will take questions from the audience. His satellite-aided campus appearance is sponsored by MSU's College of Engineering.

Citing what he termed "a spirit of entrepreneurship our college works hard to instill in its students," college Dean Wayne Bennett said, "It's appropriate and exciting that they will have the opportunity to interact with one of the world's great entrepreneurs."

Dell Computer is a partner with the College of Engineering in its student computer ownership plan, Bennett added.

"That relationship has helped our majors acquire the state-of-the-art equipment they need," he said. "Dell also has extended this volume-purchase agreement to include all of Mississippi's high schools and community colleges."
