To help provide a lighthearted start to the 2001 spring semester, Mississippi State's Counseling Center is sponsoring "An Evening of Readings from the Works of Dr. Seuss."
The free Jan. 16 program begins at 7 p.m. in the university's Colvard Union ballroom. Presenters will include head MSU women's softball coach Kathy Arendsen, psychology professor Tom Carskadon, human sciences assistant professor Phyllis Bell Miller, and student affairs vice president Roy Ruby, among others.
Thomas W. Woodruff, counseling psychologist at the center, said the event "is just for fun." In keeping with the tone of the evening, milk and cookies will be served, he added.
"Our center most often does very serious presentations about serious topics," Woodruff said. "We thought students and others would enjoy a chance to begin the semester with something fun that provides a positive mental health message."
Arendsen will read "There's a Wocket in My Pocket"; Carskadon, "Fox in Socks"; Miller, a hat lover, "The Five Hundred Hats of Bartholomew Cubbins"; and Ruby, "Horton Hatches a Who."
