A group of Mississippi State organizations is joining with the Starkville Chamber of Commerce to sponsor a new holiday event at the university.

Open to all, Holiday Fest 2000 will take place 5:30-8 p.m. Nov. 30 at the Colvard Union. While admission is free, participants are encouraged to bring a canned food item for collection and distribution to needy residents in the Starkville community.

For children, the evening's activities begin with a photo session with Santa Claus, refreshments, displays of international holiday customs, face painting, and a workshop to make tree ornaments.

At 6:30, the MSU music education department will present a concert of seasonal music featuring various instrumental and choral ensembles. The concluding event of the evening will begin at 7:30 with the lighting of a tree on the union front lawn.

The inaugural Holiday Fest is co-sponsored by MSU's Campus Activities Board, music education department, Panhellenic Council, Order of Omega, Interfraternity Council, International Services Office, Residence Hall Association, and Richard Holmes Cultural Diversity Center.
