A Mississippi State student group is bringing home honors from the National Wildlife Society.

At NWS's recent national conference, the four members of the university's Wildlife Society finished second in a competitive quiz. The University of Minnesota team was first and Arkansas Tech University was third in the 16-school challenge.

MSU representatives include James L. Asmus of Highland, Calif., Scott L. Edwards of Meridian, Christopher R. Latch of Starkville, and Nicholas A. Winstead of Morton. All are College of Forest Resources seniors but Asmus, who is pursuing a master's degree.

They and the other contestants were asked a battery of questions prepared by professors and professionals. Topic areas included wildlife and fisheries management, wildlife and fisheries biology and forestry.

The Wildlife Society was founded in 1937 as the scientific and educational organization for professionals in wildlife management and natural resources conservation. The organization has 9,000 active members and 78 student chapters.

Mississippi State's chapter was established in 1971 and currently includes 73 forest resources majors.
