The vice president for business affairs at Mississippi State is being named a senior fellow with the State Institutions of Higher Learning.

Leah T. Norman, a university vice president since 1995, assumes her new duties Oct. 1. She will assist Commissioner of Higher Education Thomas Layzell with special projects related to fiscal affairs including studies of institutional housing needs and cost management strategies.

"Ms. Norman has made many significant contributions to Mississippi State as the university's chief financial officer and her talents will be a great asset to the university system as a whole," said MSU President Malcolm Portera.

"We appreciate her years of dedicated service to Mississippi State and wish her well in this next stage of her career."

Norman joined Mississippi State in 1985 and served as internal auditor and director of budget planning before moving into the top business affairs position. She previously worked for the state Department of Audit.

Portera said that a search for the next vice president for business affairs will begin immediately.
