Stacy M. Roberson is the new director of the Richard Holmes Cultural Diversity Center at Mississippi State University.

The center's former program coordinator, Roberson assumed the position July 1, with formal approval of her appointment pending by the state Board of Trustees, Institutions of Higher Learning. She replaces Samuel T. Miller, who resigned in June to become vice president for student affairs at Georgia Southwestern State University in Americus.

"Stacy is a very capable young professional," said Roy Ruby, vice president for student affairs, in making the announcement. "She will provide good leadership to the center through her ideas and her rapport with students."

A Shreveport, La., native, Roberson joined the center staff last year. Previously, she was coordinator of student organizations for the Office of Student Activities at Jackson State University and a graduate assistant in JSU's Office of Alumni Affairs.

Roberson holds a bachelor's degree in social science education and a master's in counseling and guidance, both from JSU. Currently, she is working on a doctorate at MSU in counselor education.

The Holmes Cultural Diversity Center works to enhance the college experience of culturally diverse students through numerous programs and services.

The center is named for the first African-American to enroll at Mississippi State. Now a Birmingham, Ala., physician, Holmes earned bachelor's and master's degrees from MSU in 1969 and 1972, respectively.
