Mississippi State is marking the highest single-year giving total during a non-campaign year in the university's 120-year history.
Vice President for External Affairs Dennis Prescott said MSU received more than $40.5 million in gifts and pledges during the just-ended 2000 fiscal year. The total reflects a 51 percent increase over the past year, when $26.9 million was recorded.
The largest giving year in university history took place three years ago when $44.2 million in gifts and pledges came in during the final year of the school's first capital campaign.
"We have benefited greatly from the generous support of our loyal alumni and friends," Prescott said.
"I also am very proud of the hard work and effort by everyone involved at Mississippi State during this last year," he added. "To record the largest giving total in a non-campaign year in the university's history is a great accomplishment."
Prescott said giving totals during a fiscal year are determined by adding new gifts received to monies pledged and deferred gifts received during a fiscal year. In Mississippi, a fiscal year for state agencies begins July 1 and ends the following June 30.
